Wendy's Franchisee Fined $157K for Violating Child Labor Law

Manna Inc., a Kentucky-based franchise company that runs Blaze Pizza, Fazoli's, Golden Corral, and Wendy's has been slammed with a six-figure fine for allegedly violating child labor laws in Wendy's and Fazoli's restaurants across nine states. The U.S. Department of Labor's Wage and Hour Division (WHD) shares the company now faces a fine of $157,114 due to their negligence of child labor laws in nearly 100 restaurants in Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

According to investigators, crew members aged 14 and 15 were working "outside of legally approved hours and for more hours than allowed by law." Allegedly 446 minors had worked in Wendy's restaurants before 7:00 a.m. or after 7:00 p.m. on school nights, worked more than three hours on a school day or worked more than eight hours on a non-school day.

"Child labor laws exist to ensure that when young people work, the work does not jeopardize their health and well-being or educational opportunities," said Wage and Hour Division District Director Karen Garnett- Civils. "We encourage all employers to review their employment obligations and to contact the Wage and Hour Division for compliance assistance."
