In addition to tasty tacos, white sand beaches, and cheap cervezas, we now have another reason to travel to Mexico: the Mermaid Frappuccino.
That's right. The Mermaid Frappuccio exists, but only south of the border. According to a recent press release, Starbucks is serving up this specialty drink in Mexico and not in the U.S. because certain key ingredients are not available in American Starbucks locations.
What is the Mermaid Frappuccino?
In contrast with the unofficial Mermaid Frappuccino that went viral last May, this decadent drink was created by the Starbucks corporate office, not the imagination of bloggers.
The official Mermaid Frappuccino is lovingly crafted from green melon creme and topped with blue vanilla whipped cream, blue and pink sugar crystals, and luminous violet edible pearls. We suspect it also contains fairy dust and starfish tears.
The creation is the next masterpiece in what may be a trend of mythical creature-inspired Starbucks drinks. Recall that just last April, Starbucks launched a limited-edition Unicorn Frappuccino--a dazzling drink that changed colors and flavors when you gave it a stir and was available only for a week.
Where and when can you get it?
The Mermaid Frappuccino will be available starting August 24 in Starbucks locations across Mexico. The enchanted drink will be served for one week only, and then it will disappear like its frothy Unicorn predecessor.
The Mermaid Frappuccino is one of more than 245 Starbucks items born in Mexico. Other Mexico-native Starbucks products include the Churro Frappuccino, Panque de Elote, and Mexican Chocolate.
So how can you get your hands on a Grande cup of this majestic but elusive beverage? We suggest booking a cheap flight to Mexico and mastering these simple Spanish phrases:
"Hola, quiero un Mermaid Frappuccino, por favor."
Hello, I'd like a Mermaid Frappuccino, please.
"Dios mio, el Mermaid Frappuccino es la bebida mas sabrosa que he probado!"
Oh my god, the Mermaid Frappuccino is the tastiest drink I've ever tried!
"Disculpe señor, ¿va a terminar eso Mermaid Frappuccino?"
Excuse me sir, are you going to finish that Mermaid Frappuccino?
"Quiero siete mas Mermaid Frappuccinos, por favor."
I'd like seven more Mermaid Frappuccinos, please.
"¿Como que ya no hay más de los Mermaid Frappuccinos? Soy un Americano!"
What do you mean, I'm cut off of Mermaid Frappuccinos? I'm an American!
