New Barbecue Restaurant Opens in the Texas Hill Country

When it comes to barbecue around the country, it's a national fact that the Texas Hill Country offers up the best there is. If you're craving the vinegar style of Carolina BBQ or the sauce-covered ribs of Kansas City and Memphis, you certainly won't find it here. In the heart of barbecue country, it's the meat and house-made sausage that is put on proud display. It's all about the smoking process in Texas, and we can now add one more barbecue restaurant to list. Texas 46 BBQ is officially open in Spring Branch, Texas.

Southwest of Austin and just north of San Antonio, Texas 46 BBQ is on 2 Sun Valley Drive. If you frequent Spring Branch, you might remember that location as the previous Texas 46 Bar and Grill.

Purchased by Freedmen's owner Cuatro Kowalski, the renovation of the 30-year-old restaurant has been documented on social media since 2015. Finally, Texas 46 BBQ is open and showcasing some seriously good smoked meats and side dishes.

The property can seat up to 300 customers in its indoor and outdoor areas. The barbecue restaurant also has a full bar inside with 20 draft beers and four cocktail varieties on tap. You can even find frosé at the bar, along more frozen cocktails. Chef and pitmaster Austin Fry, per Austin Eater, is serving up a menu from four thousand-gallon offset smokers. Talk about an arsenal.

On the menu, you'll find Fried Pickles, Pork-Rib Poutine, and Texas Chile for starts. The sandwiches reflect the BBQ flair and even has a few funky options, from the Chopped Beef Sandwich to the Chicken Fried Steak Burger. Our eye is on the Smoked Salmon Burger, though. Smoked salmon at a BBQ restaurant with those giant smokers sounds delicious.

For the meat, you'll find classic Texas offerings, like brisket, pulled pork, TX46 sausage, pork ribs, turkey, beef ribs, and jalapeño cheddar sausage. The sides are also standard fare, from Potato Salad to Cowboy Beans with pinto beans to Cream Corn and Fried Okra.

The real winner here, though, sounds like the Smoked Skillet Pies. Choose from the Seasonal 46 Pie, Texas Pecan Pie, or the Brownie & Cream for a tasty treat.

So the next time you're in the Spring Branch area, make sure you stop by Texas 46 BBQ. When it comes to Texas-style barbecue, Central Texas knows exactly how to serve it up right.
