Williams Foods LLC of Lenexa, KS has recently announced a voluntary and precautionary recall of their Great Value Mild Taco Seasoning Mix and H-E-B Taco Seasoning Mix Reduced Sodium due to a possible presence of Salmonella contamination. According to the release by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, both items contain cumin spice which was supplied by Mincing Spice Co. The recall was initiated by Mincing after a specific lot of cumin came back as "possible salmonella contamination."
Salmonella is most dangerous for people with weakened immune systems, young children, and elderly people. For a healthy person, contact with salmonella can cause fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. But for some, the salmonella can travel into the bloodstream and cause arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.
The FDA states that the potentially affected product consists of retail packages weighing 1 - 1.25 oz. The taco seasoning products are sold in Walmart stores and H-E-B in the following states: AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, DC, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, WI, WV, WY.
For the 1 oz Great Value Mild Taco Seasoning Mix, the "Best By" date includes: Best if used by 07/08/21 and Best if used by 07/09/21 and bears the product UPC number: 0 78742 24572 0.
For the HEB Taco Seasoning Mix Reduced Sodium, the product date includes: Better by 07/10/21, Better by 07/11/21, and Better by 07/15/21. The product UPC number is 0 41220 79609 0.
