Dunkin' Adds New Spicy Ghost Pepper Donut to Menu

You got spicy chicken nuggets at McDonald's, new spicy hot sauce at Del Taco, and now, spicy donuts thanks to Dunkin'. I have to say 2020 is the year of the spice. Are they marketing ploys or do people really love a touch of heat in everything they eat? Whatever the cause, I'm here for it.

Dunkin' Releases New Spicy Donuts

Dunkin's new spicy ghost pepper donut is the perfect treat for Halloween. The Halloween donut starts as a classic yeast donut, but that's the only thing classic about it. Topped with strawberry icing and a blend of cayenne, ghost pepper, and red sanding sugar, the limited-time donut is sweet with a kick from its spicy side.

"Halloween looks a little different this year, and so do our donuts," said Jill Nelson, Vice President of Marketing Strategy at Dunkin', in a statement. "While our classic bakery offering has plenty of crave-worthy treats, we're excited to show our spicy side with a donut that packs a touch of heat with something sweet and can be enjoyed any time of day."

The ghost pepper is said to be one of the hottest chili peppers in the world. If you like spicy food, this new menu item has your name on it.

Dunkin' restaurants have also rolled out DIY Dunkin' Donut decorating kits to add some Halloween fun to kids and parents staying in due to the coronavirus pandemic. The kit includes classic yeast or Old Fashioned cake donuts and pre-packaged icing in orange, white, and black varieties and three sprinkle blends. Kits come in two sizes: small, with four donuts, and large, with nine donuts.

Dunkin' also launched its Spider Donut as part of its Halloween lineup. Competitor Krispy Kreme is selling Halloween sweets as well including monster-themed donuts featuring Dracula, Frankenstein, and a Werewolf.
