Sonic Offering $1 Hot Dogs Today in Honor of National Hot Dog Day

In celebration of National Hot Dog Day -- July 19 -- Sonic Drive-In is offering up its six-inch All-American Hot Dogs and Chili Cheese Coneys for just $1 apiece.

Sonic's All-American Dog is just as patriotic as it sounds: a grilled, all-beef hot dog topped with the classics -- ketchup, yellow mustard, relish and diced onions -- on a warm bun.

The Chili Cheese Coney piles warm, spicy chili and melty cheese on a grilled beef hot dog. This deal is only good Wednesday, July 19, and is limited to five hot dogs per person.

And now, a few National Hot Dog Day facts!

-- National Hot Dog Day was created by the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council and was first celebrated with a Capitol Hill hot dog luncheon in 1991.

-- According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, the proper etiquette required to eat a hotdog is finish the hot dog in five bites. In the case of a foot-long wiener, only seven bites are appropriate.

-- In 2014, U.S. consumers spent more than $2.5 billion on hot dogs.

-- Los Angeles consumes more hot dogs than any other American city -- more than 3.9 million in 2014 alone.
