Shiner Beer Donates $500,000 to Texas Relief Fund

Everything is bigger in Texas, including the amount of money Texas companies have donated to help other Texas businesses! Spoetzl Brewery, the brewer of the Lone-Star favorite, Shiner Bock, is donating $500,000 to the Texas Restaurant Association's relief fund set to help Texas' independent restaurateurs and their employees during the coronavirus pandemic.

"All of us have been affected by COVID-19," Jimmy Mauric, Shiner's Brewmaster, shared with NBC DFW. "As of today, our brewery is fortunate to continue brewing with enhanced health and safety measures. But we are saddened to know that restaurants and bars throughout Texas-that are independent like us-are in distress. We hope that our collective fundraising efforts will help them respond to the challenges that they're facing."

Shiner Beer is no stranger to donating to Texans in times of crisis. Back in December (remember when we were allowed to go outside?) The 110-year-old independent craft brewery donated $12,000 to six local fire departments that responded to the fire that broke out on the Wurstfest grounds in New Braunfels, Texas on November 15, 2019. And every year Shiner Beer donates to the Boot Campaign, an organization that raises awareness and funds to help wounded veterans. Since 2011, the brewer of Shiner Bock has raised over a million dollars for the campaign.

"This is an unprecedented time for our industry, fighting a never-before-seen battle for survival," Dr. Emily Williams Knight, President & CEO of the Texas Restaurant Association and Education Foundation, said. "In times of crisis, restaurants are always on the front lines, feeding victims and first responders; in this crisis, restaurants are among the victims. Together with amazing partners like Spoetzl Brewery, we can support restaurants and their employees, the heart of our communities, stay in operation and weather this storm."

Shiner Beer is encouraging its customers to donate to the Texas Restaurant Relief Fund by texting "TRRF" to 31996 to help the Fund reach its $10 million goal. Followers can also post a toast to those affected in the restaurant, foodservice or hospitality industry using the hashtag #ShineOnTX.
