7 Rum Cocktails You Don't Need a Shirt, Shoes, or a Problem to Make

It seems fitting, more than most food holidays, that National Rum Day falls during the dog days of summer on August 16. When you've been scorching away all summer long, what could bring much more relief than a big ol' bowl of rum punch? Very few things, and we could list them on one hand. So for National Rum Day, grab the Captain Morgan, and let's get to whipping up some delicious rum cocktails.

Always consume alcohol with care, and don't forget the lime juice to add some zest to these rum drinks. Most of these drinks are measured in ounces. Don't fret! Simply grab a mason jar and doing your measuring using the ounce notches on the glass.

1. Morgan Mule

This recipe, all things considered, is so easy that you can make it with everything in your pantry right now. Captain Morgan Spiced Rum meets its match in this ginger-based tradition that's best served with a lime wedge on the side.

  • 1.5 oz. Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum

  • 4 oz. Ginger Ale or Ginger Beer

  • Mint Spring

  • Lime

Muddle mint and lime in the bottom of a tall glass.

Add ice, Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum and ginger ale or ginger beer.

Garnish with a mint spring and lime wheel. Stir and serve.

2. Morgan Mule Gelatin Shots

Maybe you want to go non-traditional to celebrate National Rum Day, and who can blame you? It seems like it's just what Captain Jack Sparrow would do. Never one to choose classic cocktails over new twists, get to whipping up a batch of these bright green shots!
