Red Velvet Oreos Will Be Discontinued in 2020

All good things have to come to an end. Whether it be spring break or a rocking Willie Nelson concert, nothing lasts forever, including one of our favorite Oreo flavors. According to MSN and Instagrammer @Markie_devo, Red Velvet Oreos have been discontinued to make room for other sandwich cookies on the shelf.

Oreo Discontinues Red Velvet Oreo Cookies

Like the cake it's named after, Oreo red velvet sandwich cookies feature a cream cheese frosting creme filling in between two red velvet cookies. Like red velvet cake, the cookies are sweet and tangy with the characteristic cocoa flavor. These chocolate sandwich cookies are great on their own, but add a glass of milk and you've got yourself a real treat! Let's not forget Oreo is milk's favorite cookie.

According to @Markie_devo, he realized something was up when the creme sandwich cookies were no longer on the shelf at his local grocery store. He reached out to Oreo who confirmed his suspicions, sharing that the Oreo cookies had been cut to make room for new yummy limited-edition Oreo sandwich cookies.

However, don't fret yet. Cookies are still on the shelves until they run out of inventory. Or better yet, make your own Red Velvet Oreos at home to continue snacking after the last box is sold.

Red Velvet is a phenomenon. Sweet and tangy, it's the perfect flavor to enjoy as a birthday cake or a dozen cookies. The best part about this Oreo recipe is that it's healthier than the normal Nabisco brand and contain no high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavor.

To make your own red velvet wafer cookies at home combine all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, sugar, salt, butter, egg, and liquid red food coloring. Combine and shape into balls, then press down with the bottom of a drinking glass. Bake until the edges are starting to set and get crunchy.

For the cream cheese filling, combine cream cheese with butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Whip until fluffy and fill your chocolate wafers and serve.
