- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup root beer
- 1 egg
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 1 Tbsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 8 hot dogs
- oil for frying
In a small bowl combine buttermilk, root beer, and egg. Set aside.
In a medium bowl whisk together flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the wet ingredients to the dry and stir until just combined.
Place hot dogs on sticks and dip into batter mixture.
Meanwhile, heat a large pot with oil and heat to 375ºF. Add the hot dogs and fry until golden, about 5 minutes. Remove from oil and serve.
The root beer adds a great flavor, try it with your favorite brand.
To make dipping the hot dog in the batter easier, transfer the batter into a large drinking glass and dip the hot dog in.
Serve these Root Beer Dogs with a glass of Texas Tea.
