This Peanut Butter Bread Is Nutty and Easy to Bake

Our Grandmothers knew how to cook when things were rough in America during the Great Depression-era. Faced with ingredient shortages and the overwhelming stress of not knowing if next month's rent would be covered, women took to creating recipes with the ingredients they had on hand. Now, Americans are pressed with the same problems almost a hundred years later (22 million out of work, grocery shortages) and are looking to rebirth the same recipes that their grandparents used to get them through the hard times. One of which is peanut butter bread, a quick bread recipe that only uses 6 ingredients and can be baked in an hour.

What is Peanut Butter Bread?

Shared in the Reddit sub, r/old_recipes, this original recipe comes from the 1932 Five Roses Flour cookbook via Glen & Friends Cooking on Youtube.

What we love about this bread recipe is how easy it is to make. No kneading, no rising, and no yeast, unlike sourdough! Instead, this bread bakes up more like banana bread or zucchini bread which is leavened using baking powder, making this easy recipe perfect for first-time bakers.

It tastes like a peanut butter cookie and when you add chocolate chips, nutella, or peanut butter chips into the mix (what's stopping you?) it's a slice of heaven on earth. When I baked this bread I used creamy peanut butter but feel free to use crunchy peanut butter or whatever you have on hand.
