Mississippi comeback sauce is a classic, Southern-style condiment that originated in Jackson, Mississippi. A mix between a remoulade, thousand island and creamy ranch dressing, comeback sauce originated in a Greek restaurant where it was served as a salad dressing. Folks will tell you that comeback sauce is more versatile than other popular sauces and dips. And there's reason why.

Mississippi comeback sauce can be used in several ways. Try it out as a dipping sauce for French fries, fried pickles, veggies, or chicken fingers. You could even use it to add a kick of heat to burgers, po'boys, and sandwiches. And why not try it out as a salad dressing? It's a great way for kids (and picky adults!) to eat their greens! And it turns out this sauce is extremely simple to whip up in just 5 minutes. You can also refrigerate it for up to a week. You'll start by gathering your ingredients. I know it looks like a ton of ingredients, but trust us, you won't be disappointed with the blend of delicious flavors. Also, the ingredients are pantry staples so you most likely have them hanging around in the kitchen right now. Let's make some comeback sauce!

In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, olive oil, chili sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, lemon juice, dry mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, black pepper, and kosher salt. Whisk together by hand or place all of the ingredients in a blender or food processor. Make sure to chill the sauce for at least 30 minutes, preferably overnight, so the flavors have time to blend together.

You'll fall in love with the spiciness from the chili sauce, cayenne pepper and hot sauce, but find that the creamy mayonnaise and acidity from the lemon juice really help balance out all of the flavors.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup chili sauce (Heinz makes a tomato based sauce, but you could also use something like Sriracha)
  • 2 tbs ketchup
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp hot sauce
  • 1/2 lemon's worth of juice
  • 1/2 tsp dry mustard (Or 2 tsp mustard)
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt

Instructions

Mix together all ingredients. Whisks and elbow grease, blenders, or food processors all work wonderfully.
