Fortunately you realized that you have all the ingredients in your fridge and pantry to make Million Dollar Dip. Crisis averted and you get to enjoy this party favorite with your friends and neighbors. Win-win!
What is Million Dollar Dip?
Known also as Neiman Marcus Dip, this vintage cheese dip recipe was first introduced in Helen Corbitt's Cookbook where rumor has it that it was first served in Neiman Marcus's Zodiac Room in Dallas, Texas. The "Almond Bacon Cheese Spread" was an instant hit and people noted it tasted like a million bucks, hence the name.
Today the Zodiac Room still serves lunch, however it seems the dip is no longer on the menu. The do serve their famous chocolate chip cookies though. The Dallas-based luxury retailer now has over 40 restaurants across the country. The first restaurant was opened to keep the customers in the store longer when they got too hungry to continue shopping.
How to Make Million Dollar Dip
This Million Dollar dip recipe only has six ingredients: sharp cheddar cheese, real bacon bits, mayonnaise, cream cheese, slivered almonds, and green onions. Some people like to substitute sour cream for the mayo as well as fresh bacon slices for the bacon bits. However you serve this party dip up, it'll be a huge hit.
The prep time on this easy dip recipe is only five minutes, practically a commercial long during game day. Serve at room temperature with your favorite crackers (Ritz or pretzels are a favorite). Save any leftover cheese ball in an airtight container and snack on it throughout the week.
