- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 Tbsp cornstarch
- pinch salt
- 2 cups milk
- 2 egg yolks
- 2 Tbsp butter
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
In a saucepan whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Add 1/4 cup of milk and stir, forming a paste. Whisk in the remaining milk slowly and add in the egg yolks.
Turn the burner to low and stirring constantly, cook the mixture until thickened, about 15 minutes. Do not boil the mixture.
Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla. Pour into a bowl and cover with plastic wrap, pressing the surface with the wrap. Chill until set, about 1 hour. serve.
To prevent a pudding skin make sure to place the plastic wrap directly on the mixture when chilling.
