Ingredients
For The Dough
- 2cups all-purpose flour
- 1/3cup white sugar
- 2tsp baking powder
- 1tsp salt
- 3Tbsp butter, softened
- 3/4cup milk
- 1 egg
- 2Tbsp melted butter
For The Filling
- 1/2cup brown sugar
- 1/2cup white sugar
- 1Tbsp cinnamon
- 1tsp cardamom
For The Frosting
- 4oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4cup butter, softened
- 1/2cup powdered sugar
- 1/4tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
For The Dough
- Preheat your oven to 400ºF and grease a 9-inch square pan with baking spray.
- In a large bowl whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the softened butter and using your hands, work the butter into the flour mixture.
- In a small bowl combine the egg and milk. Pour into the butter and flour mixture and stir until a soft dough forms. Place dough on a floured surface and roll into a 1/3-inch rectangle. Using a pastry brush, brush rectangle with melted butter.
For The Filling
- In a small bowl combine the brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, and cardamom. Sprinkle on the buttered dough and roll the dough into a log. Cut into 12 equal pieces.
- Bake until golden brown and cooked throughout, about 25 minutes. Remove from oven.
For The Frosting
- In a medium bowl beat together cream cheese, butter, and powdered sugar. Add vanilla extract and stir. Frost hot cinnamon rolls with frosting and serve.
Recipe Notes
If the dough is hard to roll out, add more flour to make the dough easier to handle.
To ensure that all of the rolls are cooked through, test a middle roll for doneness.
