Whether its snowing or 100 degrees, it's always the perfect time for a margarita. Traditionally margaritas are served with tequila, orange liqueur, and fresh lime juice either on the rocks or frozen with a salt rim. But who needs tradition when it comes to cocktails? Today there are hundreds of new recipes popping up and adding flair to the mixed drink, including this recipe for a cherry margarita prepared with silver tequila, simple syrup, and fresh Cherry-Berry Health-Ade Kombucha.

What is a Margarita?

Said to be invented in 1938 by Carlos "Danny" Herrera, the margarita was crafted specifically for an aspiring actress named Marjorie King, who happened to be allergic to every hard alcohol except tequila. One day while behind the bar at his Tijuana-area restaurant, Rancho La Gloria, Carlos decided to take the elements of a traditional tequila shot (salt and lime wedges) and incorporate it into a yummy summer drink.

Where to Find Cherry-Berry Health-Ade Kombucha

Brewed in Los Angeles, Heath-Ade Kombucha was founded in 2012 by a husband, wife, and best friend team with the mission to bring healthy and delicious fermented tea to the public. Sold in glass bottles, the company features flavors like Bubbly Rose, pomegranate, and pink lady apple. One of my personal favorites is Cherry Berry, which is a combination of sweet cherry juice, elderberry, and hibiscus. One sip and it feels like you are on a tropical island.

How to Make a Cherry-Berry Lime Margarita

To start, combine the tart Cherry-Berry Health-Ade kombucha, lime juice and simple syrup in a large glass pitcher. Using a wooden spoon, stir in the tequila. Run a lime wedge along the lip of the glass and press the rim into margarita salt. Fill the glass with ice and the fresh cherry margaritas. Garnish with fresh lime slices and leaves of basil. Now that's a beautiful margarita.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 16 oz bottles Cherry-Berry Health-Ade Kombucha
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice
  • 6 oz silver tequila
  • 2 oz simple syrup

Instructions

To start, combine the tart Cherry-Berry Health-Ade kombucha, lime juice and simple syrup in a large glass pitcher. Using a wooden spoon, stir in the tequila.
