Prep Time: 10 minutes | Cook Time: 60 minutes

  • For The BBQ Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 2 Tbsp cider vinegar
  • 3 Tbsp molasses
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp hot sauce
  • For The Shrimp
  • 1 1/2 lbs peeled and deveined large shrimp
  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 4 cups prepared grits
  • 1 Tbsp chopped freen onions

In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and cook the onion and garlic until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in ketchup, bourbon, vinegar, molasses, brown sugar, and hot sauce. Bring to low heat and simmer until thickened, about 45 minutes.

Transfer the sauce to a blender and blend until smooth. Season with salt and pepper and set aside.

Preheat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Oil the grill with the vegetable oil. Brush the shrimp with 1/2 cup of the sauce and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Grill until pink and firm, about 5 minutes.

Serve on grits sprinkled with green onions and remaining bbq sauce.

This BBQ sauce would be great with ribs or pulled pork.
