Prep Time: 20 minutes | Cook Time: 8 minutes
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup apple cider
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour Can sub. regular flour
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/8 tsp ginger, grated
- 1 large egg
- Cinnamon sugar, for topping
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Melt butter and cider together in saucepan, setting aside to cool completely.
Whisk together dry ingredients (flours, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg) in medium bowl.
Whisk sugars, honey, ginger, and egg into cooled cider-butter mixture.
Stir wet ingredients into dry until just combined.
Spray donut pan liberally and fill each donut slot with mixture.
Bake for 7-9 minutes - donuts should be golden brown.
Remove donuts from pan and cool on wire rack. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar over donuts while hot.
These luscious treats are best served warm, but can be made the night before. If you'll be pre-making the donuts to serve in the A.M., skip the cinnamon sugar topping when the donuts are hot out of the oven - instead cool donuts per usual. In the morning, set your oven to broil and pop the donuts in for 2 minutes. Immediately sprinkle cinnamon sugar over the beauties and voila! Ready to serve.
