Your afternoon pick-me-up just got a little bit more powerful. Pepsico, the company behind Pepsi-Cola, is debuting a new Pepsi coffee product in the Spring of 2020. Pepsi Café, the new coffee-cola beverage, is an unexpected flavor medley of coffee and Pepsi with nearly double the amount of caffeine of a regular Pepsi. Say goodbye to that afternoon slump and hello to an extra caffeine boost in a slim can.
What is Pepsi Café?
Available in two flavors, Original and Vanilla, new Pepsi Café is a blend of roasted Arabica coffee and the crisp flavor of Pepsi. Coffee drinkers and cola fans can both agree it's a great new product to sip on after lunch. Todd Kaplan, VP of Marketing, Pepsi, shares in the latest press release, "We are confident that cola fans, iced coffee drinkers and anyone in need of an extra caffeine boost will love the unexpected flavor medley of roasted coffee infused into the refreshing, crisp flavor of Pepsi."
This isn't the first time Pepsi has branched out into the coffee-soda space. In 1996, the brand launched Pepsi Kona, a coffee-cola which was test-marketed in Philadelphia. A year later the soda was pulled due to low sales.
Soft drink rival Coca-Cola has also dabbled in the Coke and coffee market. Coca-Cola Plus Coffee has been on the international market for the past few years, selling in markets like Australia, Spain, and Thailand. Last year Coke Plus Coffee hinted at a United States release, however, no launch date has been set.
According to Todd Kaplan, the company is excited to re-enter the coffee and soft drink category and provide a new drink for people to enjoy. Look out for the new beverage to hit all major national retailers beginning April 2020.
