Bring These Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings to Every Party

If you didn't realize that dessert dumplings are a thing, you're in for a treat. Not only are these dumplings sweet, they include a special ingredient- Mountain Dew! Who knew that soda could be incorporated into a dessert? The warm flavors of cardamom and nutmeg combine with citrus to make a delicious flavored butter. Add this to crescent rolls and sweet Mountain Dew icing and you have yourself the delicious Mountain Dew Apple Dumpling!

Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings

If you've ever wished for a smaller, easier version of apple pie, this dessert recipe is your solution. These apple desserts have all the warm, autumny flavors of pie but in bite-sized portions. The best part is, you don't have to worry about making crust- all you have to do for the "crust" in this easy recipe is unroll your crescent rolls. The best apples to use are generally tart ones like Granny Smith Apples. These typically hold their shape while baking and result in the perfect amount of sweetness when combined with sugar.

For an alternative to the Mountain Dew in this apple dumpling recipe, use Sprite instead. This will result in a similar tasty treat, with slightly more lemon-lime. You can also substitute for Ginger Ale, which will yield less citrus and more ginger. When it comes to the fruity side of things, peaches are a yummy replacement for apples if that's what you have on hand. For an extra indulgent dessert, enjoy your apple dumplings with a whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top!

How to Make Mountain Dew Apple Dumplings

Start by making the icing- pour Mountain Dew into a small saucepan, and add in sugar and lemon juice. Stir on medium heat until sugar fully dissolves.

Let mixture reduce to 1 cup and allow it to cool, then let sit for 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

To make the flavored butter, melt butter and mix in lemon and lime zest, sugar, cardamom and nutmeg. Set aside.

Unroll the crescent roll dough and divide into 8 equally sized pieces. Brush each with the flavored butter.

Slice the apples and lay one or two apple wedges on the wide end of each crescent roll.

Spray a large baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.

Beginning at the wide end, roll each crescent roll up and place into the prepared baking dish.

Pour the remaining flavored butter over the crescent rolls, followed with the icing mixture.

Bake at 375 degrees f for 20 minutes or until rolls are golden brown and slightly crispy!
