Lysol Needs to Sit on Surfaces for 10 Minutes to Disinfect Properly

Once flu season makes its yearly appearance, we begin disinfecting more than usual. Unfortunately, many households aren't getting the most out of their Lysol. Honestly, I don't think many people are getting proper use of their cleaning products. Some people don't put laundry pods in washers correctly! We can discuss that later, but please, let your Lysol spray sit for 10 minutes on norovirus surfaces.

Take a look at the instructions on the back of the spray can. Be sure to pre-clean your hard surfaces with a multi-purpose cleaner, then use the Lysol Disinfectant Spray. Let it sit for 10 minutes y'all! Let a few songs from your cleaning playlist go by, and then your surface will air dry.

What Is a Norovirus?

According to the CDC, norovirus is a contagious virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea. No, it's not related to the flu, but considering that the CDC is recommending Lysol during the COVID-19 pandemic, you should play it safe and let Lysol sit on surfaces for 10 minutes. Just let it air dry.

Lysol is the Michael Jordan of cleaning products. Their sanitizing products kill 99% of cold and flu viruses. Your regular multi-surface cleaner (all-purpose) cannot do this. In a time where COVID-19 is prevalent, you need cleaning supplies that work as a sanitizer.

Also, be sure not to spray the air with Lysol products. (It smells good, but it's not an air freshener.) There are harmful chemicals in it that you don't need to breathe in. This is a huge reason why people choose to clean household surfaces with natural cleaning products.

Now that you know to pre-clean surfaces and to let your Lysol sit for 10 minutes (on norovirus surfaces), your disinfecting spray can work to its full potential. Again, considering the coronavirus outbreak, I'd go with 10 minutes rather than three.

What You Can Spray Lysol On

  • Food contact surfaces
  • Toilet seats
  • Bathtubs
  • Garbage cans
  • Shower curtains
  • Sofas (upholstery)
  • Gym Bags
  • Pet Beds
  • Shower curtains
  • Area rugs

If you've ever dealt with a mildew problem, you'll be happy to know that Lysol prevents mold and mildew from growing up to a week. Say goodbye to odor-causing bacteria.

Another way you can stop the spread of germs is to use Lysol Disinfecting Wipes. They are wonderful! I use them on doorknobs, light switches, and wipe down countertops with them. Keep a tub in your living room. It's great to make it a habit of wiping down remote controls!

Besides Clorox bleach, you can never go wrong with a can of Lysol spray.
