[dropcap]N[/dropcap]ot everyone inherited their grandmother's green thumb. There are plenty of us who enjoy gardening but struggle to keep plants alive. These low-maintenance plants seem to have an understanding of our lack of green thumb because they require little care.
These plants can thrive with little sun, very little water, partial shade, or even full sun. Whether it's the weather or your busy schedule keeping you from your garden for long periods of time, your low-maintenance garden will survive without constant care.
Low-Maintenance Plants
1. Black-Eyed Susan
Black-eyed Susans love the sun. They reseed themselves, what more could you want? (They're also native to Texas, which you have to love.)
2. Geranium
These gorgeous pink flowers require easy-care. They make wonderful indoor plants and will do well in dry climates. Since they're drought-tolerant, you don't have to worry about watering them every day.
You just need to water them once the soil has completely dried.
3. Coneflower
These beautiful purple flowers are deer-resistant and are drought-tolerant. Hey Central Texans, you ought to give these flowers a place in your garden bed.
4. Daylily
Daylilies need full sun (for at least half the day). If you're someone who wishes to leave plants on windowsills, this is the plant for you.
5. Catmint
Catmint requires full sun and partial shade to be healthy. This herbaceous perennial is drought-tolerant and attracts hummingbirds and other sweet pollinators.

6. Lilac
This low-maintenance shrub only needs about one inch of water per week.
7. Peony
Peonies bloom from early spring to early summer. You only need to water them 2-3 times a month.
8. Yarrow
Daily watering and fertilizer? Not for this plant! Save your water for scorching hot summer days.
9. Sedum
Everyone knows succulents are perfect for people seeking low-maintenance plants. Sedum makes an excellent groundcover, but if you love succulents as indoor plants, feel free to find a cute planter and keep it inside.
Water them at least once a week.
10. Hosta
Hostas love moist soil, but don't like it soaked! To prevent root rot (and to keep them alive), consider only watering them once a week.
11. Zinnia
These flowers bloom quickly! They are known for their speedy blooms in the late spring and their variety of colors.
Stick to watering them once a week.
12. Hydrangea
A deep watering once a week will suffice for hydrangea. Gardeners say they're resistant to pests, which is a win!
