Kalsarikännit: The Finnish Word For Drinking at Home Without Pants

If you're one of those people who eagerly waits for the weekend and spends every second moving from one yoga class to brunch to grocery shopping to errands, I applaud your motivation and drive. It takes a lot of mental juggling to pull off a full work day, head to the store, and cook dinner for your family. Sometimes, there's nothing I want more than to just relax with a bottle of wine and my favorite show of the moment.

Do you look forward to the weekend to recharge, relax, and try to not put pants on for as long as possible? Maybe you don't even plan on going out later, but instead are looking forward to a nice quiet home in your coziest socks. If that's the case, then Finland is probably the place for you because they have a word for that very feeling: Kalsarikännit.

The Finland tourism site, ThisisFinland, states that Kalsarikännit means:

The feeling when you are going to get drunk home alone in your underwear - with no intention of going out.

Now they're talking our love language,  y'all. Who knew a Finnish term could completely wrap up our favorite activities into a single word? It's time for some self-care and inner peace, so take off that belt, grab a glass, and take part in this Finnish tradition.

The Danish concept of hygge took over the conversation not too long ago, but there's something even more timeless about owning up to your introverted, pants-averse self that makes me believe Finland's concept is here to stay.

In fact, signal it to your friends with the Finland emoji collection - the first country in the world to publish a set of themed emojis.

They were created to describe some hard-to-describe Finnish emotions and customs, but something about drinking without pants on is the most universal idea ever.
