Wendy's Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit Is Here to Compete With Whataburger

I wish waking up early to make breakfast every day was possible, but it's just not realistic! Thank goodness for fast food breakfast. Ditch your granola bars and mini cereal boxes next time you're in a hurry and grab Whataburger or Wendy's Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit. Depending on where you live, you might lean toward Whataburger. But if your home state has both franchises, you might be torn.

Let's forget about Popeyes vs. Chick-fil-A for a second and see which breakfast chicken sandwich is crowned the best. As a Texan, I made sure to go into this taste test with an open mind. I even stopped by Wendy's first, how kind of me!

Wendy's Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit

Wendy's rolled out their breakfast menu back in 2012, but it wasn't successful. After the breakfast menu was killed in 2013, they decided to bring it back in 2020. Wendy's did bring back their classic breakfast sandwiches that include sausage and eggs, but they were on top of it this time with a honey butter chicken biscuit.

I tried it for the first time today, and I think the chicken tender is delicious. Once I ordered, I got a strong aroma of maple syrup in the car. This concerned me a bit because I was hoping to smell honey butter sauce.

The crispy chicken met my standards! If you're a fan of Wendy's chicken sandwiches, you can't go wrong with their buttermilk biscuit as an early morning fried chicken fix. However, the lack of honey ruined it for me. I'm sorry, Wendy's, too much of a syrup taste and not enough honey for this girl!

Biscuit rating: 3.5/5

Chicken rating: 4/5

Sauce rating: 2/5 (Where's the honey?)

Whataburger Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit

Whataburger's Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit is the winner for me. Their buttermilk biscuit is golden brown, and it pairs perfectly with the extra honey butter drizzling down the side of it. Whataburger isn't stingy with their sauce!

Seriously, you'll need a paper towel to dab the extra sauce off your mouth. These things are coated with honey butter. As for the chicken strip, it's perfect. If you love Whataburger's chicken strips, you'll want an HBCB every day for breakfast.

You do have the option to ask for extra honey butter (at no charge), which is fantastic. You can even add your choice of cheese, along with eggs or bacon, if you'd like. (For an extra charge, of course.) What's even more exciting is that you can choose to have it on a jalapeno cheddar biscuit for no additional charge.

Both chicken biscuits have savory boneless chicken, but the sauce really makes or breaks the sandwich, which is why I'm crowning Whataburger as the winner.

Want to make a copycat HBCB at home? Hey, some of us can't make it to Whataburger during breakfast hours (and well, some of us just crave a fluffy buttermilk biscuit and fried chicken at all hours).

Grab some chicken thighs (or chicken breasts) and get your black pepper, all-purpose flour mixture, maple honey butter, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, a few more of your favorite seasonings, and your all-time favorite biscuit recipe. With all these yummy ingredients, you don't have to worry about getting a biscuit sandwich for a limited time. Have one anytime you're craving one!

I'm craving one right now!
