Make Homemade Salsa With Your Salsa Garden Vegetables

Nothing beats having fresh guacamole and fresh salsa in the fridge. Salsa is perfect for snacking, and I'd choose salsa over a bag of chips any day. If you'd like to cut down on grocery store trips for jalapeños, Roma tomatoes, cilantro, and onion, it's time to plant your salsa garden.

Salsa gardens don't take forever to grow like that avocado tree you're getting frustrated with. It only takes about two months for your tomato plants to begin producing yummy tomatoes. As for jalapeños, it'll take a few months. If you're ready to put your blender to use and make your own salsa, learn how to get your home garden ready.

How to Grow a Salsa Garden

You'll need a container for each basic ingredient. Most salsa recipes consist of tomato, cilantro, onion, garlic, and jalapeño (feel free also to use habanero, tomatillos, or bell peppers). My homemade salsa consists of two different hot peppers! After you gather your containers, you'll need to get your seeds, soil, and plants.

You can find seeds at Home Depot or online. (Amazon has jalapeño, onion, and cilantro seeds. Their tomato plants also have fabulous reviews). Find a sunny spot in your home so your veggies can bloom. In about two months, you'll be able to transfer your plants to a raised bed.

Doesn't that look so easy? The growing season is here, y'all, and it's the perfect time to keep a steady supply of salsa in the kitchen. Once summertime rolls around, you'll have a homegrown batch of salsa for your guests to snack on.

Besides salsa, you'll have ingredients for wonderful spring and summertime meals. Grab some cucumbers and throw in your fresh homegrown veggies for a cucumber tomato salad you won't be able to resist.

It's the perfect side, and you don't have to work up a sweat in your hot summer kitchen to make a bowl.
