Dolly Parton Charms the Camera While Making Delicious Funnel Cake

Dolly Parton captured the heart of America early on in her career, quickly becoming known for her singable country songs and charming personality. Along with having an amazing singing and acting career, she owns Dollywood, a theme park in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. This video shows the beloved Dolly decorating a delicious-looking funnel cake at Dollywood!

Dolly Parton at Dollywood

Anyone who has seen Dolly Parton perform knows how lovable this singer and actress can be. In this video, her sense of humor and easygoing charisma is on full display as she jokes about her height and banters with Robin Roberts.

At the start of the video, Dolly Parton reveals that she had a pedestal made for her, to ensure that Dollywood guests don't tower over her during videos. She says "Yayy, for the first time in my life I can be tall!" adding "If I'm going to ever be on a pedestal it should be at Dollywood."

Here's the video to see for yourself!

Although Dolly Parton is the star of the video, as she should be, another amazing part is the funnel cake that she prepares along with Robin Roberts and Dollywood's culinary director, Aaron Banks.

Mini Funnel Cake

Each of them has a fresh berry and lavender mini funnel cake to decorate. Aaron Banks leads the way, first instructing them to add powdered sugar to the cake. Next comes the Chantilly cream, which is whipped cream with added sweetener, often sugar or vanilla extract.

At this part of the video, Dolly Parton is nervous, exclaiming "I made a mess before!" but she successfully tops the cake with cream, saying, "I'm doing good now!"

They then drizzle lavender honey on top, adding a few berries with tongs or a spoon. Last comes a garnish of an edible flower, creating a lovely and delectable end result!

How to Make Your Own

If this video inspires you to make your own homemade funnel cake, there are plenty of easy funnel cake recipes to transport you right back to the state fair. Classic funnel cake batter consists of milk, eggs, water, vanilla extract, sugar, baking powder, a pinch of salt, all-purpose flour, and confectioners sugar.

To make this tasty fair food, you need either a squeeze bottle or a measuring cup with a spout to be able to drizzle the batter into the pan. You also need a liberal amount of canola oil or vegetable oil to fry the cake batter.

Like many fried foods, funnel cakes are so irresistibly yummy because they're deep-fried in hot oil, so arguably the most important step is to heat oil in the pan. Then, you fry your delicious fried dough in a pan or deep fryer until crispy and golden brown, just like you would with donuts!

If you're worried about kcal or carbohydrates, you can always go for a mini funnel cake like Dolly. But as she says herself while preparing her funnel cake, "who wants healthy?"

Here's a tasty recipe with a prep time of five minutes and a total time under ten minutes. Enjoy with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream on top, or sprinkle on some cinnamon sugar for an extra dash of sweetness. Dolly would be proud!
