We Ranked Frozen Biscuits And The Winner Was Flaky and Flavorful

Your dinner is now complete!

What's a better start to the day than a warm, buttery, flaky biscuit? Frozen biscuits are easy to use cook in the morning for a simple breakfast that feels homemade. There are so many options for how to enhance your breakfast biscuits.

You can easily turn your humble biscuit into a breakfast sandwich, piled high with eggs and bacon. You can find frozen biscuits that are tailored to your family's dietary needs and wants. Biscuits are not limited to a breakfast item, either. You can use them to make biscuit sandwiches for a quick lunch or dinner.

Lucky for you, we've scoured the shelves to try a few frozen biscuits to tell you which one is the best.

The Best Frozen Biscuits

4. Pillsbury Grands Southern Homestyle Buttermilk Biscuits

Pillsbury is a household staple known for its delicious crescent rolls, chocolate chip cookie dough, and cinnamon rolls. Their frozen buttermilk biscuits are no exception. The biscuits are kept in the refrigerated section, requiring no thawing before baking.

Once the bag is "popped" open, the biscuit dough is ready to be cooked. I loved that you just put the biscuits in the oven at 350 degrees f for about 20 minutes. They don't require an egg wash to get golden brown.

The biscuit was extremely fluffy when cooked, with crispy edges. It had a similar taste to their crescent rolls. The biscuits did have a small aftertaste of flour, but nothing a little butter couldn't fix.

3. Pillsbury Grands Flaky Layers Biscuits

The flaky layer biscuits live up to their name. Even before the biscuit was cooked you could see each layer.

The flavor was very similar to the southern-style biscuits. They were lights, buttery, and airy. I loved that you could pull apart each pillowy layer. The edges were perfectly crisp and light. These would make a great substitute for dinner rolls or as a breakfast pastry.

You can even cook these in an air fryer and achieve the same results. Simply air fry for 10 minutes at 330 degrees.

2. Pennymade Original Biscuits

I'd never heard of this biscuit brand before but was pleasantly surprised to see them at my local store. These biscuits are packaged in a bag, instead of a tin tube. These biscuits are sold in the frozen foods section of the store.

These biscuits tasted the most homemade. They were light and fluffy, instead of flaky. You could taste the tang from the buttermilk as well as the richness from the added butter.

These biscuits listed instructions for heating in a toaster oven. I thought this was great for quick on-the-go mornings when you don't want to bother preheating the oven.

1. Pennymade Hatch Green Chile Cheddar Biscuit

The overall winner was the hatch chili cheddar biscuits. These biscuits hands down had the most flavor.

I was shocked at just how much the green chili came though. Each bite gave off a hint of heat from the chilis. I love spice, so this was a welcome addition, but if you're spice averse, I would avoid these.

I was impressed that you could see the bits of chili, as well as the fresh cheddar cheese. Hot out of the oven, this was the perfect biscuit.

Additional Frozen Biscuits

Some other popular frozen biscuit options unfortunately were not in stock near me. If you can get your hands on these other brands, they'll be worth a shot.

Homemade Biscuits

If you'd like to try your hand at biscuit making, they're very easy to bake up at home. The simple ingredients include salt, baking powder, flour, sugar, butter, milk, cream of tartar, and egg.

Simply combine the dry ingredients, add the cold butter, then the milk and egg. Once combined, use a biscuit cutter or glass to cut individual biscuits.

To make them extra delicious, add a dab of butter on top before baking.
