When you download the McDonald's app and join the loyalty program for the first time, you get to choose from an array of delicious food options, like the Vanilla Cone, McChicken, or Cheeseburger for free after your first purchase. This applies to in-person or mobile orders, and for now is only a program for McDonald's USA.
Another avenue to free fries is National French Fry Day, which fell on July 13th this year. McDonald's gave away a free order of fries to honor this essential holiday. Plus, the restaurant hosted a MyMcDonald's Fan Contest, for which fans could enter for the chance to win free Medium fries for life. To enter, you needed to Tweet proof of your McDonald's fandom and use the hashtags #McDonalds, #MyMcDonaldsFanContest, and your state-specific hashtag.

Although these options for free fries are all fine and good, a TikTok user showed us that we don't need elaborate McDonald's-loving tweets or a McDonald's loyalty program to get free McDonald's fries- all you have to do is ask for them!
In the video, TikTok user Orlando Johnson, @itsosoprodigy, filmed as his friend simply walked up to the McDonald's counter and asked for free fries. Johnson's friend returned to his seat grinning, with a box of overflowing fries. Here's the video:

After this success, Johnson posted a series of other TikToks revolving around free fries. He tried the trick at Wendy's and was successful once again. Then, Johnson filmed a friend receiving free fries at Canes. The latest video was at McDonald's once again, but Johnson's friend switched it up by asking for chicken nuggets. The McDonald's workers again acquiesced, giving him two McNugget-containing happy meals without batting an eye.

Some fast food workers said their perspective, explaining that regardless of any policy, they would gladly give someone free french fries if they ask nicely, as long as the manager isn't around.
