KFC, like many of its fast-food competitors, is in the midst of extending the scope of its brand well beyond the limits of the chicken bucket, diversifying into a limited-edition clothing line and, now, a series of comic books starring Col. Harlan Sanders himself.
As Food & Wine reports, DC Comics' booth at July's San Diego Comic-Con offered up the third issues in the teaming of Col. Sanders and members of the Justice League. This time around, the Colonel joined forces with Green Lantern to "bring crunchy, spicy satisfaction to a hungry universe. But when someone steals all his space-bound Zinger sandwiches, Colonel Sanders and Green Lantern sets out to catch the thievin' varmint!"
KFC #3 Across The Universe is only the most recent time Col. Sanders teamed up with a member of the DC comic universe.
KFC #1 The Colonel of Two Worlds saw the Southern, string-tied chicken baron join forces with The Flash to battle the evil Colonel Sunder from Earth-3, bent on tarnishing our Colonel's good name.
One year later, when the Anti-Colonel attacks the Multiverse, the future of fried chicken lies with Colonels from various worlds spanning the Multiverse in KFC #2 The Colonel Corps.
DC Comics KFC writer Tony Bedard said of the creation:
"It's been an honor, a privilege, and just plain fun working on the last two KFC comics. I'm super-excited the story is a trilogy now, with the Colonel planet-hopping across the DC Universe. As a former Green Lantern writer, it's great to revisit Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps.
I've written many comics over the years, but the response to teaming up the Colonel with DC Super Heroes has been a phenomenon all its own."
