Royal weddings don't happen often, especially in the United Kingdom, so as we come into the final countdown of the union of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on live television, it seems like everyone has Royal Wedding fever. If it's not this cucumber tea sandwiches recipe that over 75,000 people have saved for the big day, it's discussions on the flavor of the Royal Wedding cake. If you don't feel like whipping up a full English breakfast on Saturday morning to watch the nuptials, Dunkin' Donuts has a good standby: the Royal Love Donut.
From May 14 through May 20, the wedding-themed donut will be on menus at participating Dunkin' Donuts locations nationwide. It's a heart-shaped donut filled with jelly and frosted with chocolate icing with a strawberry drizzle. While we wish that it was a lemon elderflower donut, like the wedding cake, this will work just fine for us. So why create a limited edition Royal Wedding donut?
As Dunkin' Brands Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Nigel Travis said in press release, "As the U.S. donut leader, we love helping our guests make special occasions both big and small even sweeter with fun donut designs and flavors. The Royal Wedding represents optimism, happiness, and joy, and thus is the perfect opportunity for our brand to celebrate. We hope all donut lovers, royalty or not, will enjoy the new Royal Love Donut next week."
If you live in the New York City area, Dunkin' has one more surprise for you. The brand will give guests the royal treatment on May 14 as a special horse-drawn carriage in pink and orange will offer guests a chance to ride in style through Central Park while enjoying those Royal Wedding Donuts. Carole Radziwill, a real life princess and famous from the Real Housewives of New York, will take the first ride in the carriage. You might not be able to spend the nuptials at Windsor Castle, but hey, a heart-shaped doughnut isn't too bad at all.
