A Dunkin' Donuts Beer Will Be Released on the Winter Solstice

When you think of beer, do you tend to go for craft brews or stick to the classics? This is a question most Americans are encountering in liquor stores and bottle shops as craft beer continues to be a driving force of innovation and excitement. Craft is even making its way into the mainstream through brand collaborations and off-the-wall brews, like this kelp beer. However, Dunkin' Donuts is finally getting into the swing of craft beer things with news of this Dunkin' Donuts beer.

December 21 is the darkest day of the year, and in honor of the Winter Solstice, Dunkin' Donuts announced that Wormtown Brewery would release the DDark Roasted Brew. This is the first beer to be brewed with Dunkin' Donuts Dark Roast beans, though Krispy Kreme isn't too far behind with the announcement of two breweries in Florida. Wormtown Brewery will release the beer at exactly 11:28 a.m. on December 21, 2017 from their taproom in Worcester, Mass.

The beer is brewed with Dunkin' Donuts Dark Roast beans, and is the first beer to do so. As for the taste of the beer, per the press release, "The decadent stout-style beer features full-roasted coffee flavor reminiscent freshly-ground beans with a creamy mouthful, one typical of a stout." As Rob Branca, a local Dunkin' Donuts franchise owner in Worcester, said in the press release,

"We're thrilled to partner with Wormtown to launch DDark Roasted Brew. Worcester is home to one of the first Dunkin' Donuts restaurants so we know how much residents love the brand and our coffee. This partnership with Wormtown continues to drive innovation in Worcester and we are excited to brew up something extra bold to help our loyal guests to celebrate the darkest day of the year."

In addition to the new Dunkin' Donuts beer, Wormtown Brewery and Rob Branca will donate $11,500 to the Worcester Food Bank to lift up their local community during the holiday season.

The Head Brewer at Wormtown Brewery, Scott Drake, said of the new release:

"We couldn't be more excited to partner with Dunkin' Donuts on our latest beer. We're confident this beer is going to be an instant favorite for New Englanders this holiday season, and the fact that we're able to give back to Worcester-area families through this partnership just makes it that much better."

Guests that attend the special tapping of the limited edition beer at the Massachusetts brewery on Thursday, December 21, will enjoy special donut and beer pairings created by the Dunkin' Donuts culinary team. The Wormtown brewery taproom sounds like the place to be on Thursday, that's for sure.

The national coffee chain continues to surprise us year after year, and we can only imagine those dark roast coffee beans added so much flavor to this new coffee-inspired beer.
