Charm City Cakes founder and "Ace of Cakes" Duff Goldman launched his very own DIY wedding cake kit through a partnership with meal service Chef'd -- and it's a lot less expensive than most designer cakes.
The DIY wedding cake kits It comes with all the ingredients you'll need to get baking -- and a cake pan -- minus salt, cooking spray and plastic wrap, which you likely already have in your kitchen, and a few basic baking needs like a mixer, small bowls, knives and spatulas.
The new line includes the Celebration Cake, a three-tiered, multi-layered vanilla cake with buttercream frosting. While these classic flavors are fantastic on their own, the Celebration Cake is also a versatile base for personalization of flavor, colors and designs of your very own.
What's more, the Celebration Cake starts at just $189, significantly less than most designer cakes, which run anywhere from $1.25 to $12 per slice for 150 guests.
While baking your own wedding cake may seem daunting -- at a budgeted six hours, it isn't the best option for a time-pressed bride -- Goldman also filmed a series of instructional videos for Chef'd, guiding baking brides-to-be through every step of the process, from prepping ingredients to frosting to making decorative fondant roses.
For those who want to eschew the traditional cake and go for something simpler, Goldman's line of desserts with Chef'd also includes Brown Butter Vanilla Cake, Chocolate Cupcakes with Vanilla Buttercream Frosting and Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies.
