Cutwater Spirits began in 2017 in a garage with a couple of guys who happened to have already founded one my favorite breweries, Ballast Point. So becoming a fan of their spirits line was a natural progression in my admiration for men who make alcohol. The Cutwater Tequila Margarita in both peach and strawberry have sealed my love.
Ready To Drink? Yes, we all are after the past year and a half. But I'm referring to Cutwater Spirits' ready to drink canned cocktails. There are so many to choose from in this San Diego brand's growing lineup.
Their award-winning portfolio of spirits is used as the base of their ready to drink canned cocktails, giving them complete quality control. House distilled whiskeys, vodka, gin, rums, tequilas, and liqueurs are shaken and stirred in convenient 12 fl oz cans with seltzer, tonic, juice, sodas, and mixers, making accessibility to your favorite tequila soda, whiskey mule, or other mixed drink a breeze.
Canned Cutwater Tequila Margarita cocktails are the perfect drink to bring for casual get togethers. Margarita drinkers will swarm around you and faces will light up with excitement. Cans are ideal for when the friendly brawls break out. It's much safer to "hug it out" with aluminum cans than glass bottles.
There are so many drinks to try. The Mango Margarita and the Tequila Paloma made with grapefruit were my introduction to that fruity marg that everyone loves.
The original Cutwater Tequila Margarita has a definite floral aroma that contrasts and complements the mix of tart lime, pure cane sugar, and a hint of orange flavor. Cutwater isn't like any canned cocktail I've tried. They definitely put that quality Cutwater twist on everything they make.
Been known to drink a vodka or three? You've got options. Made with Cutwater's Vodka, you can take your pick of a grapefruit vodka soda, lime vodka soda, or refreshing cucumber vodka soda. I confess to personally drinking the cucumber vodka soda with a lox and cream cheese bagel at brunch. It was almost noon. Or maybe 9 am. So let's just say I'm dedicated to Cutwater.
Worried about appearances when drinking out of a can? The Vodka Mule comes in a copper-colored can to coordinate with your bronze sandals. Metallics are hot in fashion but there's no metallic taste to this ginger beer drink. Not a ginger fan? Go for the Elderflower Vodka Spritz. Spritz is my middle name.
Get the exotic theme party going by serving the Tiki Rum Mai Tai (pineapple, coconut, and citrus combined with Cutwater Bali Hai Tiki Gold Rum). Fun Fact: Cutwater's rum is made from pure cane sugar instead of molasses.
So How Did The Peach and Strawberry Margaritas Taste?
My neighbor Michelle is a huge fan of the Cutwater Spicy Bloody Mary. Her husband Michael goes crazy for a good Margarita. So they were excited to try the new Peach and Strawberry Margarita with me on a sweaty summer night. That's what neighbors are for, right?
We poured the Strawberry Margarita into a big solo cup first-- we're classy like that-- and we all took a sip of the cold drink with no ice. Woah! This was no lightweight cocktail! We were all pleasantly surprised at how much tequila we tasted balanced with a subtly fruity flavor of strawberry puree. It wasn't overly sweet at all and there was nothing artificial about it. We busted out the ice cubes to dilute the drink a bit and it really got more delicious with every sip.
Onto the Peach Margarita!
The Peach was super fresh and we loved that nothing tasted like an artificial peach flavor. The tequila taste was front and center, but the flavors were very balanced. More balanced than we were when we tried to get up from the patio table, anyway.
We all agreed that these drinks are certainly stronger at 10% ABV than those cans of hard seltzer everyone is drinking these days. They're fantastic on their own or you could add some fresh fruit, a spritz of seltzer, or extra crushed ice to prolong your uprightness.
Cutwater is quickly becoming THE name we look for when we peruse the ice tub o' drinks at every gathering. Good thing they make variety packs too so we can try them all.
