According to the FDA, select varieties of Breakstone cottage cheese products have been recalled due to the potential of red plastic and sharp foreign material in containers of cottage cheese. Consumption of the objects could cause injury to the teeth, mouth, throat, stomach, or intestines if swallowed.

What is Breakstone's Cottage Cheese?

Known as curds and whey, cottage cheese is a fresh cheese product with a mild flavor. It can be enjoyed plain, topped with salt and pepper, fresh fruit, granola, or any other toppings, savory or sweet. Some lasagna recipes call for cottage cheese in place of ricotta. It's a popular cheese for people on diets due to its low-calorie count.

The company became aware of the situation when a consumer complained about plastic pieces in their container of cottage cheese. So far there have been 6 consumer complaints and no reports of illnesses. Approximately 9,500 cases of Breakstone's Cottage Cheese is being recalled due to the potential contamination. The brand sent the products to various retailers in the United States and to Latin America.
