Costco sheet cakes may be coming back soon! According to NBC Bay Area, the ordering area for the cakes has been reinstated in a local Costco, prompting the return of the cakes.
Why the sudden change of heart? Costco has yet to respond.

Nine out of ten times, every elementary school birthday party included the famous Costco half-sheet cake. Light and fluffy cake filled with a mousse filling and topped with buttercream, Costco's half-sheet cakes have always been a huge part of celebrations, including weddings, baby showers, and graduations. However, it looks like shoppers are going to have to make a visit to Sam's Club if they want that popular half-sheet cake because Costco announced that they are not bringing back the affordable Costco cake for the foreseeable future.
What Happened To Costco's Half-Sheet Cakes?
Like most grocery stores, Costco cut back on items during the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic, one of them being the Costco sheet cake in May in lieu of the smaller 10-inch round cakes that Costco Bakery decorators could produce fast. But the smaller cakes are just not the same. The larger cake used to serve up to 48 people and was only $18.99, a steal for a birthday cake.
While the Costco half-sheet cake is gone, it doesn't mean Costco Wholesale stores aren't offering large cakes. Just this month Yahoo reported that Costco bakery is selling a massive Caramel Tres Leches Bar which weighs in at over two pounds. It's not a chocolate cake filled with chocolate mousse but I'll take it!
Thankfully Sam's Club is still offering their half-sheet cakes which serve up to 48 people and is only $19.98. Totally customizable, the cake comes either in marble, chocolate, or white with whipped or regular frosting. Add balloons, a birthday message, and make it yours! The only downside is that the cake is one layer and does not contain a filling. But hey, it's more than what Costco is currently offering.
Pour out a glass of milk for the Costco half-sheet cakes. We will miss you deeply.
