Compton's Foodland in North Nashville Gives Away Free Groceries to Those Affected by Tornado

Early Tuesday Morning, residents across the Nashville, Tennessee region were hit by the second-deadliest tornado event in state history. Buildings were torn from their spots, trees were smashed, and broken gas and power lines left thousands of residents without electricity. Putnam County, which is some 80 miles north of Nashville, got the brunt of it, where one twister left 18 dead and over 80 injured. Once the tornado cleared, residents of the area began helping their fellow neighbors, standing strong against the national disaster. One of the many businesses helping the community is Compton's Foodland grocery store in North Nashville. According to WKRN, the owner of the neighborhood store is giving out free groceries to those affected by the tornado.

What is Compton's Foodland?

Located at 2808 Old Smith Springs Rd, Compton's Foodland is a community based, independently operated grocery supermarket that sells a big selection of quality groceries. With a friendly staff, the store has been open for the past couple of decades, serving Nashville families. The current owner purchased the store in 2005 from Mr. James Compton after he had spent over 80 years in the grocery store business. Today the Hunter family manages Compton's Foodland.

According to reviewers, Compton's Foodland is a "great neighborhood grocery store". One reviewer even noted that the neighborhood grocery store has some of the best fresh-baked caramel pecan cookies they've ever tasted, "oversized and Chuck full of butter, caramel and enough pecans to taste." One reviewer who calls herself a "Publix snob" noted the store had super quality groceries for cheap. Sounds better than a typical neighborhood grocery store!

The grocery store is looking for volunteers with cars to help with their food drive. According to WKRN, a semi-truck will be parked at 1015 Kellow Street in North Nashville. Volunteers may pick up food to distribute to neighbors.
