Back in April of 1982, Mike Young and John Zapp opened their first "fun and funky" Tex-Mex restaurant in Austin, Texas. For a little over 20 years, the only place you could find a Chuy's location was in Texas. But in 2009, the chain expanded their take on Mexican food to Nashville, Tennessee, and then on to locations around the country. If you've never been to a Chuy's before, well, the Chuy's menu doesn't look quite like any other Tex-Mex place.
Here's what you need to know about what's on Chuy's menu. We should note that Chuy's is offering a limited menu right now because of the pandemic, so you won't see some of their usual offerings like their appetizer plate, quesadillas and tortilla soup, or their house specialties like the Elvis Presley Memorial Combo, the Elvis Green Chile Fried Chicken, the Comida Deluxe, Stacked Enchiladas, or their Deluxe Tomatillo Sauce. Appetizers and Salads

It's not Tex-Mex without queso, and Chuy's is a blend of melted cheese, and their Green Chile and Ranchero sauces. And of course, you can also order their signature guacamole.
This isn't your ordinary taco salad. The Mexi-Cobb Salad has fajita chicken, green chiles, cheese, fresh avocados and tomatoes, all served on a bed of salad greens, red cabbage and carrots.
Famous Enchiladas

Their not called famous enchiladas for nothing. These hand-rolled to order enchiladas are made with homemade corn tortillas and served with Mexican rice and refried beans. Right now, you can order their Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom enchiladas, with roasted chicken and cheese, and Chuy's signature Boom-Boom sauce, which is roasted New Mexican green chiles, tomatillos, green onions and cilantro, blended with cheese.
Or you can pick up custom enchiladas, choosing from chicken enchiladas, beef enchiladas or cheese enchiladas. To make these your own creation, add your favorite sauce, too. You can choose from ranchero sauce (a vegetarian red sauce made from fire-roasted tomatoes, cilantro, onions, bell peppers, caramelized onions and spices), a tomatillo sauce (green sauce), green chile sauce (green chiles and tomatoes), Hatch green chile sauce (roasted New Mexican green chiles and caramelized onions).

You definitely want to order one of these. For the Big As Yo' Face Burritos, you can choose bean and cheese, seasoned ground beef, roasted chicken, fajita chicken or fajita beef and your favorite Signature Sauce. Your filling, refried beans and cheese are all wrapped in a tasty flour tortilla.
Or if you like, you can order a Steak Burrito, which is a flour tortilla stuffed with grilled steak and jack cheese, and topped with Hatch Green Chile Sauce. If you want extra cheesey, add queso to any Chuy's menu item.
Tacos
Order crispy tacos with seasoned ground beef or soft tacos, with your choice of fajita chicken, seasoned ground beef or guacamole. Or you can order Tacos al Carbon, with fajita beef or chicken with grilled onions and green chiles in flour tortillas.
Fajitas
You definitely want to get some of these. You can choose beef and/or chicken, which has been marinated in Chuy's signature blend of Shiner Bock beer, serrano peppers, lime juice and spices. Comes with grilled onions and green and red bell peppers, plus lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, cheese, pico de gallo and handmade flour tortillas, and they're served with Mexican rice and refried beans.
Tex-Mex Classics
For some classic Tex-Mex, try the Chuychanga, which is roasted chicken breast, cheese, cilantro and green chiles, wrapped in a flour tortilla and deep fried, then served with your choice of sauce and sour cream.
Or you can go with the Chicken Flautas, which are corn tortillas filled with roasted chicken and cheese, then deep fried and topped with Chuy's Chipotle Sauce. They're served with guacamole and sour cream, alongside Mexican rice and refried beans.
Kids Menu

Chuy's is great for the small set. Grab a Mini Burrito (a small bean and cheese burrito), Kids Cheese Enchilada or Kids Cheeseburger.
Family Meals
Right now, you can also pick up one of four family meals to take home. There's the fajita kit, the taco kit and the Peace Love & Enchilada Kit. And then there's the Kick It Up A Nacho Happy Hour kit, with chips, queso, ground beef, refried beans, salsa fresca and Creamy Jalapeno.
