In 1901, Chase's company merged with two others to create the New England Confectionery Company or Necco, which was based in Massachusetts. During World War II, the government ordered that Necco produce the wafers for the American soldiers fighting overseas. This increased their sales and resulted in many faithful customers who remembered the joy and comfort of having a piece of home while at war.
Necco Candy Wafers have been enjoyed by the public ever since their creation back in the 1840's, except for a break between 2018 and 2020. Every roll of Necco Wafers has eight original flavors; lemon, lime, orange, clove, cinnamon, wintergreen, licorice, and chocolate.
