You'll quickly receive a message back with the closest location to you where kids can receive free meals. Spanish-speakers can also text "COMIDA" to 877-877.
Who Runs This Service?
This nationwide service is run by No Kid Hungry, an initiative of the non-profit organization Share Our Strength. Through this non-profit, the information for thousands of groups that are serving free meals as part No Kid Hungry has access to information about tens of thousands of groups serving free meals nationwide as part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Summer Food Service Program are put into a database that citizens can then access based on their geographic locations.
They can do so either by text message or this interactive map on the USDA website. Whether you need a free bday meals, free meal plans for the summer, or even gluten free meals, you'll be able to find it through the Summer Food Service Program.
Lunchtime May Become an Adventure
Unfortunately, your nearest free meal provider may not be in your town. You may not have one because free meal sites are only operate in areas where 50% or more of schoolchildren are eligible for free or low-cost school meals.
Even if your neighborhood isn't eligible to be the home of a free meals provider, don't worry.
There are no restrictions on you and your children taking a journey to the nearest site where you will be able to enjoy free-of-cost meals this summer. Because no child deserves to go hungry, ever.
