How It Started
After the movie's success, Paramount Pictures wanted to open a restaurant. They approached an existing restaurant chain, Rusty Pelican Restaurants Inc. After Rusty Pelican agreed to take them on, the concept was licensed to Paramount Licensing Inc. It was then sold to Landry's Inc and has been operating under them since 2010. The first Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant opened on Cannery Row in Monterey, California in 1996. It's still the first and only restaurant operating today based on a major motion picture.
