Bologna salad makes a great sandwich spread and is very similar to ham salad, though many say it tastes way better. It's a very versatile and easy dish that can be customized to your liking. This salad makes a great appetizer with saltines or a main dish when served on some toasted white bread. At your next family BBQ, serve bologna salad as a side dish with the macaroni salad and potato salad.

Bologna Salad Sandwich Recipe

The best part about this salad recipe is just how simple it is to prepare. The prep time is 10 minutes and there is 0 actual cooking time. That means the total time for bologna deliciousness is only 10 minutes. Just like with hot dogs, you want to make sure you use all beef bologna. Rihm's Bologna is a trusted brand that makes ring bologna, but feel free to use whatever you find at your grocery store.

For this classic bologna salad you'll need: cheddar cheese, beef bologna, sweet pickle relish and about a cup mayonnaise.

You'll need to use ground bologna and shredded cheese in order to achieve the correct texture. You can either use a meat grinder if you have one, or a food processor. In a large bowl, combine the bologna, cheese, relish and mayo. You'll stir just until combined.  Taste and add salt and black pepper to your liking. You can either devour right then, or refrigerate for a few hours.

Old Fashioned Bologna Salad

The old fashioned version is almost the same, except for the addition of hard boiled eggs. The eggs make it almost a hybrid bologna/egg salad sandwich. Another substitution is using creamy salad dressing or Miracle Whip in place of the mayo for a tangier and sweeter flavor.
