It’s no secret that, to put it simply, Whataburger is life. Whether you’re getting fueled by the Whataburger Hulk or you’re going ga-ga over the cutest baby covered in Spicy Ketchup, you can’t go a few miles in Texas without hearing about Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits. HBCBs aside, Whataburger also has the best sense of humor when it comes to interacting with their customers. Their Twitter feed just proves it. But their humor goes way beyond the internet, and this little Whataburger trick is the epitome of that sarcastic sense of humor. Don’t feel bad if you’ve fallen for it, we all have once. Or twice. Maybe more than four times, but hey, we were hungry!
Whataburger trays are iconic in their own right. People are forever stealing the orange order numbers, but there’s one detail about some tray liners. Specifically, the one featuring fries. Of course your tray, when you first receive it, will be covered in fries like the one below. You’re not a real Whataburger fan if you don’t at least pile your tray high with those delicious fried potatoes. However, it’s all about what’s under the fry pile.
When was the last time you tried to grab that pesky last Whataburger fry, only to find out that it was printed on the paper? Turns out, you’re not alone. Everyone has fallen for this trick at least once, and if you indulge in Whataburger’s late-night, post-bar menu, then you’ve definitely fallen for it more than you’d like to admit.
So what does the Whataburger tray liner look like that always tricks customers?
It’s tricky because the tray liner knows that last fry is there. But that last fry is not real at all. In fact, it probably made you wish you had more fries to eat and maybe you even considered ordering another round just to have a snack for the road.
If you’ve fallen for this, you are not alone. Here’s proof.

However, if you don’t eat inside often, you might never encounter this tray liner. There are different variations that Whataburger employees slap down before your coveted taquitos are delivered to you in the restaurant.
So if it hasn’t happened to you yet, just know that it will. Whataburger always has the last word.
