America’s Favorite Flavors of Ice Cream Include Childhood Classics

In celebration of National Ice Cream Month in July, the International Dairy Foods Association released the results of a survey tallying the top-10 best-selling flavors of ice cream in the United States. While we live in such an interesting time for ice cream right now, especially when it comes to zany flavors, it can be refreshing to kick it old school and go with your childhood favorite.

Vanilla and chocolate are, little surprise, No. 1 and No. 2, as they have been for as long as anyone can remember.

  1. Vanilla

  2. Chocolate

  3. Cookies and Cream

  4. Mint Chocolate Chip

  5. Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

  6. Buttered Pecan

  7. Cookie Dough

  8. Strawberry

  9. Moose Tracks

  10. Neapolitan

These results are according to the IDFA’s members, which include ice cream heavy-hitters like Blue Bell, Nestle and Unilever, as well as members of the National Ice Cream Retailers Association.

The survey also revealed a few interesting factoids about how Americans enjoy their ice cream.

For example, did you know the Great Lakes states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and Ohio consume more ice cream than any others?

Or that ice cream sandwiches are the No. 1 frozen novelty product, beating out ice cream cups, pops, cones and bars?

Or that pecans are the most popular nut, and strawberries the most popular fruit?
