Taco Bell to Break the Tortilla Mold with a Fried Chicken Taco Shell

Following the all-American “meat as bun” trail blazed by the KFC Double Down, Taco Bell will soon introduce its latest creation: a chalupa with a fried-chicken shell, Bloomberg reports.

The Naked Chicken Chalupa forgoes the fry-bread shell of yesteryear in favor of a folded disc of breaded and fried white meat chicken, wrapped around lettuce, tomato and shredded cheese drizzled with avocado ranch sauce.

Chicken hasn’t traditionally been a big deal at Taco Bell, but markets are changing. “Fried chicken is growing at a tremendous clip,” Taco Bell President Brian Niccol said. “It’s a real void on our menu, and it’s something that our customers ask us for.”

The Naked Chicken Chalupa tested well at Taco Bell stores in California and Missouri, and should be available nationwide Jan. 26.

Now the only question is: corn, flour, or fried-chicken?
