Once again, Taco Bell is teaming up with the National Basketball Association for one slam-dunk of a promotion. Throughout this the chain’s “Steal a Game, Steal a Taco” promo, Taco Bell will hand out free Doritos Locos Tacos on certain days — when and if a team wins (“steals”) a road game during the NBA Finals, which began with a rousing 113-91 win by the Golden State Warriors over the Cleveland Cavaliers at Oakland’s ORACLE Arena — sorry, no free tacos this time.
For the rest of the finals, free tacos will be offered up for Cavs wins in game 2 (Sunday, June 4), game 5 (Monday, June 12) or game 7 (Sunday, June 18). The Warriors will need to clench wins in game 3 (Wednesday, June 7), game 4 (Friday, June 9) or game 6 (Thursday, June 15) for us to get our taco fix.
This promotion only applies to the first road win, meaning Taco Bell won’t be giving out freebies on multiple days.
Giveaways are set for 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 13, for Game 1, 2 or 3 wins, and for 2 to 6 p.m. for Thursday, June 20, for Game 4, 5, 6 and 7 wins.
Taco Bell has never been one to avoid off-kilter advertising and promotion. In the late 1990s, they “bought” the Liberty Bell in an infamous ad campaign and, in 2011, they offered a free taco to every man, woman and child in the U.S. if a chunk of the de-orbiting MIR Space Station landed on a small target off the coast of Australia.
