Starbucks Releases the Tropics (and Texas) into 2 New Summer Drinks

Summertime may just be starting in most of the country, but at Starbucks, things have already heated up as they race at full speed to top the Pink Drink and Unicorn Frappuccinos. Their newest attempt to wow us all comes in the form of the Berry Prickly Pear and Mango Pineapple Frappuccino Blended Crème. And as of June 20, you can find both at a Starbucks near you.

Both frappuccinos are part of a line called “Colors of Summer” whose flavors will be released incrementally and for a limited time throughout the season. While we don’t know what the upcoming flavors will be, we do have a good idea that they will be trending colorful and tropical based on the inaugural flavors.

Berry Prickly Pear

Americans from the Southwest know that summertime means a whole lot of prickly pear. So it’s only natural that Starbucks finally got on the prickly pear express.

However, we can only hope that they preserved the beauty of its flavor when they paired it with berries in this beautifully blended beverage.

The gorgeous pink ribbons winding through the white mango Frappuccino blended Crème background are a strawberry-prickly pear fruit puree. In addition to its dominant flavors, this fruit puree also features subtle notes of hibiscus, passionfruit, and lime.

According to Jennica Robinson from the Starbucks beverage development team, “Prickly pear has a similar taste to tropical melon and berry, and we found that it pairs really well with strawberries.”

Mango Pineapple

Just like its prickly pear partner, baristas blend this drink as a mango Frappuccino blended Crème which they then top with a mango-pineapple puree. Talk about a jolt of the tropics in every sip!

Plus the swirls of mango through the creamy layers of Frappuccino are a sight to behold.

Neither of these drinks comes with whipped cream so as to enhance the fruit-forward notes of these treats. However, according to some baristas on Reddit, you can ask for it.
