Food recalls happen and while food production companies do their best to catch mishaps before they're packaged and shipped nationwide, sometimes those processes are imperfect. Such was the case in the Stella Artois recall and the Kidde smoke alarm recall. Now in food safety news, Conagra Brands, Inc. in Russellville, Arkansas is recalling about 135,159 pounds of Salisbury steak products (including poultry, pork, and beef) that may contain bone fragments and other extraneous materials in possible contamination.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) made the announcement after several consumer complaints alerted the USDA to the issue. Three reports of minor oral injury were also associated with consuming this product.
The family-style, heat treated, not shelf stable Salisbury steak and brown gravy products were produced on March 10, 2018. The following products are subject to the recall.
- 27-oz. carton containing plastic shrink-wrapped packages containing 6 pieces of "Banquet FAMILY SIZE 6 SALISBURY STEAKS & BROWN GRAVY MADE WITH CHICKEN, PORK AND BEEF - GRILL MARKS ADDED" with lot code 5006 8069 10 05and a 'BEST BY' date of SEP 01 2019 printed on the package.
The products subject to the recall bear the establishment number "P-115" in the USDA mark of inspection on the side panel of the consumer package. The 27-ounce cartons were shipped to retail locations nationwide.
FSIS is concerned that the products are in consumers' freezers so please check yours to be sure that this isn't in your home. Anyone concerned about illness or mouth injuries should contact a medical professional or healthcare provider. Consumers who have purchased this product are urged to throw them away or return to the place of purchase.
