Sonic Will Debut Pickle Juice Slushes This Summer and It's a Big Dill

The good folks over at Food & Wine have an interesting scoop on a new frozen treat from one of our favorite fast food chains. They report that Sonic will be introducing a pickle juice slush as part of a new line of snow cone slush drinks.

The new snow cone slushes join Sonic's extensive treat menu, with fun existing flavors like green apple and blue coconut.

Maria Yagoda from Food & Wine went to Sonic Headquarters in Oklahoma City to try the new drinks and had this to say about the latest addition to the Sonic drink lineup:

Sweet and tangy, the bright brine compensates for the over-savoriness you might have been worried about. You won't understand why, but you'll keep going back for more sips, likely until it's all gone.

The only drawback, according to the preview of the new pickle slushie, is that it is a bit too sweet. But it's also tangy and bright green and perfect with burgers.

The pickle snow cone slush is made with a pickle juice syrup, which as a Sonic representative told Food & Wine can technically be added to anything Sonic makes, which means drinks, shakes, and sundaes are all fair game. (Pickle Cherry Dr. Pepper, anyone?) Though the Sonic rep did note that individual locations will set their own price for adding a shot of the tangy syrup to a menu item.

Pickle juice as an ingredient is a hot trend right now, with the favorite flavor showing up at bars, in sports drinks, and in an assortment of food and drink recipes. And if you've ever had a koolickle (dill pickles soaked for a week in Kool-aid and sugar), you know the joy of this sweet and sour combo.

The new line of snow cone slushes will be available at Sonic starting in June.
