Krispy Kreme began the year asking fans which doughnut flavors they'd like to see in stores. During their #VoteForGlaze competition, fans could vote for the newest doughnut release, choosing from Lemon, Blueberry, Caramel, and Maple flavors. I know, it's a hard decision, right? However, voters ruled that Lemon Glaze would be the next flavor they'd like to see and from April 23 through April 29, the Lemon Glaze Doughnut was available at all participating locations. However, fans that didn't vote for Lemon were disappointed. Krispy Kreme has good news, though!
After noting just how many fans voted for the Blueberry Glaze Doughnut, Krispy Kreme announced that the new one-of-a-kind glaze flavor will debut at participating locations on Monday, May 21. It will be available for one week, through Sunday, May 27 in stores in the United States and Canada.
Brittany Dubin, Culinary Innovation Lead at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts announced in a press release, "The stakes are high when innovating around our iconic Original Glazed Doughnut. Fans fell in love with our Lemon Glaze Doughnut, which won America's vote earlier this year, and have been craving more. When we looked at how America voted, other flavors received a lot of support, and Blueberry stood out as a unique and exciting culinary challenge that inspired my team - so we went straight to work to tackle the classic flavor experience of blueberry in a way that only Krispy Kreme can: our glaze."
Blueberry just screams summer, and what better way to celebrate the upcoming Memorial Day holiday than with a dozen of the brand new Krispy Kreme Blueberry Doughnuts? We're imagining that the new flavor will be similar to the Blueberry Cake Doughnut, but will feature the same classic doughnut flavor as the Original Glazed. The color of the blueberry glaze is just too pretty to pass up!
If this doughnut is a success, I wonder if we will see another limited-edition flavor in Krispy Kreme shops? While it's great news if you voted for the Lemon or Blueberry flavor, we do admit you're out of luck if you voted for Caramel or Maple as your favorite flavor, but hopefully the brand will continue to experiment.
