When you think Independence Day, hot dogs slathered in mustard and ketchup might dance in your head. The hot dog is never revered as much as it is on the Fourth of July. And what would the Fourth of July be without the annual July Fourth hot dog eating contest at Nathan’s Famous in Coney Island, New York? Who came away as this year’s victor?
None other than Joey ‘Jaws’ Chestnut, a competitive eater from San Jose, California, whose reputation precedes him. His victory at the 2017 competition beat his previous Nathan’s Famous record, set only the year before. So just how many hot dogs did he consume? Check it out.
Chestnut at 72 hot dogs in 10 minutes on July 4, 2017. In 2016, he ate 70 hot dogs in 10 minutes.
This is Chestnut’s 10th victory in the Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest.
For the women’s side of the competition, none other than Miki Sudo earned her fourth victory at the hot dog eating contest, eating 41 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes.
Congratulations to both Joey and Miki in their competitive eating victories! Now how about y’all come down to Texas and eat your fill of brisket.
